An early-17th century, Genoese, Bambocci, walnut cassone with a finely, carved grotesque masque on the central drawer

These chests are very hard to find in original condition. The finely, carved figures are a feature of these cassettone's they are traditionally considered to be particular to Genoa and a similar example is in the Milan Museum and is illustrated in Pedrini's Italian Furniture, figure 353. The chest is in good original condition, the backboards and carcass are original, the bracket feet are most likely old replacements. Fine colour & patina throughout.
