A rare, late-17th century, walnut, fruitwood and oak enclosed chest of drawers.

In two parts. The upper section with a plank top in three sections faced with a cleated and moulded edge with a simulated dentil moulding below. The shallow, top, long drawer with three moulded panels simulating small drawers, inlaid with an exotic wood, probably snakewood. The brass and lock replaced. A deep drawer below decorated with an architectural, central arch, with a pair of split balusters either side of two deep, cushion-moulded panels inlaid with an exotic wood, probably snakewood. The brasses replaced and the working, iron lock probably original. The bottom faced with a deep ogee moulding. The lower section with a pair of doors decorated with a fruitwood band, deep cushion mouldings, inlaid with an exotic wood, probably snakewood, and pairs of split balusters. The original lock removed and later working lock and brasses a replacement. The interior revealing three oak drawers with original iron drop handles, and iron staple. The bottom faced with a deep moulding and standing on stile feet. The sides of the top section decorated with a moulded panel and the lower section with two arcades. The drawers side-run and lined in oak. Excellent original colour and patina. English, third quarter of the 17th century. 11091401
