A rare, late-17th century, cedar, chest of drawers

In two parts. The upper part with a plank top in one section faced with a deep, cleated edge. The frieze with a dentil moulding. The top long drawer with a pair of plain corbels in the centre and two, moulded, cedar panels either side. The lower part with three, long drawers each with a pair of ebonised split balusters applied either side of the original iron escutcheons, and geometrical 'H' moulded panels in cedar and oak at each end. The ebonised, bone knobs later. The drawers all divided with applied mouldings and side run, oak lined, and with replaced locks. The front stiles with a pair of corbels with applied bone roundels at the top and later oak repairs in the bottom section, and pairs of applied, ebonised, split balusters aligning each drawer. The bottom with a later, ebonised moulding and replaced bun feet at the front and stiles behind. Each side with a simulated dentil moulding on the frieze and two large, moulded panels below. The carcass oak and pine. Excellent original colour and patina. English, third quarter of the 17th century. 90421324
