10967
The four-panel lid is faced with a moulded edge. One panel has some shrinkage splits and two small, oak bars underside to reinforce them. The interior is fitted with a till box, the lid has been removed and there is some shrinkage in the bottom boards. The ring hinges are original, and the hasp and lockplate are period but not original. The frieze is finely carved with griffins and acanthus leaves. The three panel front is profusely, carved with crisp, foliate-filled lozenges and stylised foliate carving in each corner. The stile feet are a good height.
This chest is in very good overall condition and has exceptional colour and patina. Second half of the 17th century.
