An exceptional, museum quality, English, baroque, walnut, open armchair with faceted legs and shaped 'x' stretcher, upholstered in fine Georgian needlework with 19th century needlework borders

Faceted front and back legs are only found on the finest model of turned armchair from the end of the 17th century, showing the skill of the cabinet maker and maximizing the display of the grain and colour of the walnut.

The elegant shaped stretcher is another rare feature and the scroll arms are beautifully executed. There is wear to the needlework pastoral scene which has been removed cleaned and conserved so that it is stable and suitable for regular use. The armchair has been in a private collection by repute for many years which explains its outstanding condition, and it is sturdy and suitable for regular use.
