An early-17th century, French, walnut, open armchair

The rectangular back and seat reupholstered in a Humphries Weaving tapestry. The barley-twist turned arms ending in blocks faced with a geometric moulding. The barley-twist turned front legs joined by similarly turned front and central stretchers and side stretchers. The front legs terminating in ball feet and the back legs straight. Excellent colour and patina.

The turnings on this open armchair are very striking. The design of the tapestry upholstery is woven from a surviving late-16th century fragment. The armchair is comfortable and very usable.
