An exceptionally rare, late 17th century, pierced, brass, double candle sconce with wings Pierced and incised decoration Rare pair of hinged brass wings with original brass catches A pair of figures either side of a heart. Two candle holders Hanging and freestanding Measures: Length main body 25cm, with wings fully open, Depth 8.5 cm, Height 28 cm CONDITION Given its portability and function it has survived in incredible original condition The punchwork and fretwork has a naïve vernacular charm Right hand side wing has an old break and repair which is visible I think the left hand side wing is a C18 or C19 replacement. It bears the original catches holding the wings in place which is incredible. I have not polished it so the patina can be burnished if required but left if not
