One of the great 17th-century sporting titles, covering all subjects of interest and use to a gentleman, beginning with summaries of logic, natural philosophy, astronomy, navigation, warfare, drawing and painting and handling in considerable detail horsemanship, hawking, hunting, and agriculture. Many of its plates are dedicated to a member of the nobility or gentry, some of whom lent their knowledge and expertise to the work
