
A late-17th century, silk and velvet, embroidered wall hanging from Knebworth House
September 18, 2019 2:41 pmIn eight sections. The middle four sections decorated with a central palmette, and the two sections either side with a central crown above a vase. All enclosed within a niche of scrolling acanthus leaves, a diamond shaped cartouche and simulated drapery. Worn red velvet on a gold, silk ground with applied gold threadwork. Faced with a modern border. Distressed. Probably Italian, last quarter of the 17th century. 11031477.
