.A significant lifestyle change has taken place over the last 5 years, and the inclination is to furnish homes with an eclectic and uncluttered mix of furniture, pictures and works of art from different periods. Early furniture mixes very well with modern and contemporary pictures, ceramics and works of art, and the juxtaposition is exciting, dynamic and representative of the 21st century. I permanently stock a small selection of signature pieces, by modern British masters with emphasis on Unit One (Paul Nash, Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, Edward Wadsworth), the Neo-Romantics (Graham Sutherland, John Piper, Keith Vaughan, John Craxton), St Ives School (Roger Hilton, Sir Terry Frost, Bernard Leach), School of London (Frank Auerbach). Conversely, old master pictures, drawings and tapestries mix very well with modern and contemporary furniture creating highly, stylized interiors. I have recently diversified further & represent this with a small selection of unique, signature pieces of contemporary bronze furniture. My clients range from serious collectors and international decorators to those seeking simply the unusual. I also offer advice for those interested in locating specific pieces and forming collections. I am a member of the BADA, LAPADA & CINOA, and guarantee the authenticity and originality of the pieces I sell. The accent is on originality, surface, and sensible pricing; with museum and collector calibre pieces shown alongside pieces which have a broader appeal for furnishing. Each piece is comprehensively researched and catalogued and any restoration work is documented. Each client automatically receives this information, a full set of photographs and advice on care and maintenance. The majority of my stock is displayed in a large, 17th century, stone barn in Burford in the Cotswolds. Selected pieces can also be shown, by appointment, at my gallery in Chelsea where my stock of 20th century pictures, ceramics and works of art is permanently on display. My on-line gallery ‘ lucy-johnson.com ’ is up-to-date, fast and easy to view, and contains photographs, full descriptions and prices of all my current stock as well as a comprehensive archive and search facility. I am a corporate member of the British Interior Design Association (BIDA), and advise on the use and placing of antiques & modern art in interiors. I have carried out many historically-orientated interior design projects in the past and, more recently, contemporary projects incorporating early furniture and works of art. |
