The top with acanthus leaf finials, retaining their original gilding. The embossed cartouche in the centre of the back contains a shield headed by a crowned eagle with a helmet below other devices. The coat of arms no longer visible. Each corner embossed with a stylised fleur-de-lys motif, surrounded by an intricate, embossed border. A band of brass studs over fine linen decorates the back edge and side. The flat arms supported by baluster-turned uprights. The rectangular seat retains its original leather in good condition. The frieze is decorated with two bands of brass studs over linen. The straight front and back legs are joined by trestle feet with front claws, and supported by a straight back stretcher. Excellent original colour and patina. Italian, first quarter of the 17th century.
