A mid-17th century, walnut & fruitwood chest of drawers from the Collection of the 1st Viscount Cowdray, Cowdray Park

In three sections. The top section is made from 4 planks of fruitwood faced with an ogee, moulded edge. The frieze has a crisply, carved dentil moulding above a shallow drawer with a typical arched panel. The mid section with deep drawer embellished with deep cushion and geometric mouldings. The bottom section with 2 cushion moulded drawers. The sides are panelled. Standing on later, but period bun feet. The back with ivorine label no 197 from the 1919 inventory & catalogue, and marked no 287 from the later inventory.

Length 114 cm., 45 in., Height 116 cm., 45 ¾ in., Depth 66 cm., 26 in.,
