Description / Expertise
This table is of a rare and attractive form with characteristic Renaissance legs. It can serve as centre, dining or writing table. It has a lovely mellow colour and lustrous patina. The top and base are original early-17th century associated elements which have been assembled together, the age of the locating ‘x’ stretcher timbers and the patina on the underside of the top over the original fixing struts suggest that this was most likely in the 18th century. The table has been priced to reflect this.

The octagonal top is in three sections each made from one wide plank of walnut over 40cm deep. The top is detachable, attached to the base with wooden pegs. The base with four column turned legs joined by four rectangular bottom stretchers and upper pine ‘x’ stretchers supporting the top. On squat bun feet, two replaced. The top and base associated. Excellent original colour and patina. First half of the 17th century
